Supplies :
Part of what makes pro cleaners so effective and efficient is that they are organized and prepared for the job. Here’s a list of essentials:
* Microfiber cloths (2-3) for glass, mirrors, & for drying cleaned sinks, countertops, tubs, & shower doors; also for shining fixtures in the sink and shower/tub
*Disinfecting bathroom cleaner
*Toilet cleaner
*Paper towles
*Soft-bristled scrub brush & small scrub brushes
*Squeegee
*Glass cleaner (optional)
*Trash bags
*Disposable gloves
Plan of Attack:
Clean everything in your home from top to bottom and from left to right.
Start up high—dusting off light fixtures & cobwebs from left to right, and just let all the dust and cobwebs fall down, because you’ll clean the floor last.
Choose either the toilet or shower/tub as your starting point, and work your way around the room until you end up at that starting point. This ensures that you don’t forget to clean anything.
Have a trash bag handy (hang it on the doorknob for easy access while working)
Always wear gloves when cleaning — especially the bathroom, and change them if they become torn.
Use paper towels to wipe toilet surfaces with, then, throw them away so you don't spread bathroom germs!
The Shower.
Important: Know your shower & tub’s surfaces before cleaning!
If you have a shower/tub combo, make sure that you know what kind of tub you are cleaning. Common surfaces for tubs, and tub/shower inserts are: fiberglass, enamel (tub), & acrylic (tub), just to name a few. Use gentle cleaners, and avoid any scrub pads or brushes that can scratch, especially if you have a fiberglass tub or shower insert. If you have a marble tub, use a cleaner specifically made for marble surfaces. For all other surfaces, I suggest mixing your own DIY all purpose cleaner, that uses common household ingredients, is mild, is non-toxic, and is super effective!
DIY all purpose cleaner for tubs/showers:
1 Cup Hot Water
1/2 Cup White Vinegar
2 TBS Dawn Soap
Mix together and put into a clean spray bottle
We’re starting with the shower because shower cleaner will require the longest dwell time of all the fixtures that you’re cleaning in the bathroom.
First, prepare the surfaces by removing all items from your shower, and then running the hot water with shower doors closed for about 3 minutes, to steam the surfaces.
Next, apply the cleaner liberally on every surface in the shower, paying close attention to the corners, crevices and the edges.
Allow it to sit for specified time of brand name shower cleaner, or, if using the DIY cleaner above, allow it to sit for 15-30+ minutes.
Starting in any heavily soiled areas, or, the corners, edges, and crevices, scrub the shower. After the dirtiest areas are scrubbed, scrub all surfaces working your way from left to right, and from top to bottom.
Rinse all surfaces with warm to hot water
Use a squeegee to remove any standing water on all surfaces—the walls, the doors, and the floor.
Dry thoroughly. Follow up with a clean and dry microfiber to catch any drips or stray drops you missed.
Polish the shower/tub fixtures with a clean and dry microfiber cloth
