Deep Cleaning, Heavy Cleaning, & Maintenance Cleaning

Anyone who’s kept up a home knows that it’s quite a bit of work, Which is why so many people hire professionals to help them keep up with all the housecleaning! What is a deep cleaning, and what items are included in one? What about a standard maintenance clean? And what’s the difference between a deep clean and a heavy clean?

These are the three most common types of cleaning requested, and while every business may define each one slightly differently, I’m sharing how we operate at Cleantopia.

Three Types of Cleaning & Suggested Frequency For Each

Maintenance, or, Standard Cleaning:

  • This is the easiest and most frequent type of cleaning. A maintenance cleaning should only be performed after an initial, deep, reset cleaning of the entire space.

  • Maintenance cleaning is what I refer to as a “spray, wait, and wipe clean”. Think: Airbnb, or, spaces that are cleaned often and consistently.

  • Because this is a spray wait and wipe, then it must be done frequently to be effective!

  • it may look to you like it’s not that dirty—because it’s not! That’s the whole point.

  • It may be tempting to skip a maintenance clean, because it doesn’t look that dirty, but, that is the whole point: to clean often and consistently, so areas aren’t allowed to build up grime and dirt.

What is cleaned:

  1. All horizontal surfaces

  2. All mirrors, and glass (except windows)

  3. All the fixtures in the bathroom: inside & out

  4. All sinks & countertops

  5. The exterior of large appliances in the kitchen; and

  6. The floors

Recommended Frequency: Weekly, or Biweekly.

Deep Cleaning

Deep cleaning has nothing to do with the level of soil and gunk in your home, it has everything to do with what is cleaned! Here’s where the confusion comes in. Many people mistakenly use the term “deep cleaning” when requesting we clean heavily soiled areas. Cleaning neglected areas that have built up dirt and grime is heavy cleaning— not deep.

What is cleaned:

Deep cleaning is a maintenance clean, plus a cleaning of certain less frequently cleaned areas such as:

  • Cobwebs

  • Ceiling fans

  • Baseboards

During a deep cleaning is when I also suggest

  • Under furniture, and

  • The interior of both the refrigerator and the oven

Recommended Frequency: Every 3, 4, or a minimum of every 6 months

Heavy Cleaning

Heavy cleaning is the cleaning of areas in a home, that have been neglected for some time, are very dirty, and, therefore, will require a lot of heavy scrubbing, and/or non-standard techniques to remove. This is the most labor-intensive type of them all, and that’s why we charge more to do heavy cleaning. As a side note: Most people greatly underestimate how dirty their home is and also the time it will take to clean it.

Recommended Frequency:

The key to keeping a clean and tidy home is to follow my Five Daily Tips to A Super Clean Home, and to do the light fast “spray, wait, wipe” maintenance cleaning either weekly, or biweekly at the very least. If a space is cleaned regularly, you will never find yourself in a position where you’ll have to do heavy scrubbing.

You deserve the comfort and ease of a clean home!
